Independent development

Donkey Forge

Building practical, privacy-conscious software, infrastructure, and tools.

An independent development effort focused on useful technology: self-hosted systems, infrastructure, networking, automation, and AI-assisted tools. Built carefully, documented plainly, and meant to keep working.

§ 01

Areas of work

What gets built and explored here. These are fields of practice, not a product catalog.

  1. Software & developer tools

Small, sharp utilities and libraries that do one job well and stay out of the way.

  2. Infrastructure & networking

Routing, DNS, tunnels, and the plumbing underneath. Designed to be understood, not just to run.

  3. Privacy & self-hosting

Services you can run on hardware you control, with data that stays where you put it.

  4. Automation & AI

Scripts, pipelines, and AI-assisted tools that remove toil without hiding what they do.

  5. Open systems & interoperability

Open formats, open protocols, and clean exits. Nothing should be harder to leave than to join.

§ 02

Principles

  • Useful over flashy.

    Technology should solve real problems.

  • Own your infrastructure.

Prefer systems that can be understood, controlled, migrated, and maintained.

  • Privacy by design.

Collect less, expose less, and minimize unnecessary dependencies.

  • Build for durability.

Favor simple architectures, documented systems, open standards, and maintainability.
